Southern Electric Premier League – Division 2 –
Paultons 186 all out (43.3 overs) : New Milton 116 all out (29.3 overs)
Paultons elected to bat and despite a good bowling display were able to post a competitive total with James the only batsman able to master the dry difficult surface. New Milton made a fighting recovery from a poor start but as the wicket began to crumble further Lamb produced a match winning spell to disappoint the home team with a second successive defeat with over twenty overs left.
Ennew (7) and James started slowly for the visitors with a 20 partnership before he was well caught and bowled by Lee Beck (6-1-32). Two more wickets followed in quick time with Dave Wheeler having O’Brien (17) well caught by Eric Linge, and White (5) adjudged lbw. Thoughts of a rout were frustrated by two match winning partnerships of 51 between James and Ray (27) ended lbw to Nick Gargaro (6-1-39), and 67 between Richmond and heavy hitting top scorer James (78 with 14 boundaries) finally defeated lbw by Linge. A major collapse followed with the next five wickets falling for only 15 runs, with three on 171. Ryan Beck (10-2-40) took two in one over having Richmond (26) well caught by Wheeler, and Robinson (0) caught by Gargaro. The returning Wheeler (8-4-33) then increased the pace having Lamb (3) caught by keeper Tom Prodomo, and Wickenden (4) clean bowled by a slower delivery. Linge (7-2-12) then polished off the innings by clean bowling Wilde (4). The home team were left feeling unlucky as an appeal for caught behind, with the snick heard around the ground, early in the James innings had been turned down.
Matt Freeman and Dan Adlem (3) got off to a steady start against the opening quickies who were exploiting the deteriorating pitch, until he was caught by Ennew off Dunn. Captain Wheeler (1) had a very short stay at the crease, with a feather edge off Wilde snapped up by keeper O’Brien. A rebuild of 24 between top scorer Freeman (26) and James Whitehurst was ended when he was caught by Ennew attempting a forcing drive off Dunn (8-2-39). The unlucky Whitehurst followed when like a fly by wire missile he picked out Wickenden, the only fielder deep in the leg side, off Wilde. With inform Lee Beck and Eric Linge (5) together there seemed a real chance of chasing down the total, but he too fell to the O’Brien – Wilde (9-3-19) partnership. Beck and Dan Loader then produced the highest partnership of the innings adding 42 and were still up with the run rate. When Beck (19) was caught Robinson off Lamb, it triggered a sudden collapse, so reminiscent of last season performances , with five wickets falling for just 22, with Lamb taking (3-5-8) including a hat trick. The next ball had Loader (24) caught by Ennew, and then Ryan Beck (0) was caught Richmond to complete the trick. The tail end offered some resistance until Lamb ended the proceedings with Nick Gargaro (5) clean bowled, and Tom Prodomo (13) caught by Robinson, leaving Ben Neal (2no). Despite the ‘demons in the wicket’ this was a really disappointing performance ending with 20 overs remaining. The team is still lying second in Div2 so there is still all to play for.

Southern Electric Premier League – Division 2 –
New Milton 175 all out (49.4 overs) : Hook and Newnham Basics 176-9 (48.5 overs)
Following a shaky start on a bowler friendly wicket, New Milton recovered to post a total they hoped to defend. Hook responded positively but then suffered a major collapse leaving the last two wickets with improbable challenge of adding a further 53. Somehow, against the odds, the last three batsmen managed to frustrate the visitors to win by one wicket and end their season’s dominance at the top spot of the Division 2.
New Milton were asked to bat on a green challenging wicket at Hook, and openers Matt Freeman and Dan Adlem made steady progress against quickies Hobday and Williams, with careful defence punctuated by well placed boundaries. Just as Adlem (16 with 3 boundaries) was playing comfortably he was adjudged out lbw off Williams (10-1-34) to a ball which appeared to be going well down leg. Captain Wheeler (4) stroked a sweet boundary, but soon fell to a catch by keeper Hunter off veteran spinner Poulter. Matt Freemen (24 with 4 boundaries) who had survived a number of aggressive, often ridiculous appeals was then adjudged lbw to medium pacer Thane. James Whitehurst (0) played back his first four balls, but with the next Poulter (10-2-21) delivery, despite a full step forward was also adjudged out lbw on 50-4 after 17 overs. Lee Beck and Eric Linge, heroes of last week, came together once again to rebuild the visitor’s innings, adding an invaluable 63 over the next 17 overs as captain Thane rotated his bowlers. Linge (45 with 7 boundaries) fell just short of his second successive half century when he was caught Love off Willcock (5-2-16), who next ball had Ben Neal (0) stretching to hit a very wide ball straight to Poulter at 113-6. Beck was now joined by the inform Dan Loader (25 with I boundary and 1 six) and together they pushed on adding 40 at four an over until he was caught Hobday off Thane (6-2-20) at 153-7 with five overs remaining. One run later the defiant Lee Beck (31 with 4 boundaries) was bowled by spinner Divecha (8-1-38), as brother Ryan Beck (16 in 11 balls with 2 boundaries) and Nick Gargaro (5 no) added a quick 20 before he was caught Hunter off the returning Hobday (10-2-39, who two balls later clean bowled Tom Prodomo (0).
Hook began their reply with Hobday and captain Ben Thane who was determined to close the gap with Dave Wheeler at the top of Div2 batting. The two made a worryingly good start as they used the extra pace of Eric Linge and Dave Wheeler to reach the boundary over the quick outfield. In the eighth over 48 was already on the board, when Wheeler (10-1-55) had Thane (10 ) adjudged lbw. Marsh joined Hobday (31 with 6 boundaries) who was threatening to take the game away with his positive play until he he was well caught by keeper Prodomo off Eric Linge (10-1-33). After a short spell by Lee Beck, the pace was taken off the ball with the trusted duo of spinner Ryan Beck and left arm seamer Nick Gargaro. Runs were still coming quickly from the partnership of Marsh (23 with 3 boundaries) and Love until he fell to a catch by Linge off Ryan Beck. Love was now beginning to put the bowlers under pressure as Willcock (4 from20 balls) defended until he was bowled by Beck. This was the start of a remarkable collapse with 5 wickets falling for just 7 runs, putting New Milton into a real match winning situation for the first time. The dangerous top scorer Love (35 with 5 boundaries) was caught by Wheeler off Gargaro at 119-5 with still 20 overs left. Two runs added and the stubborn Hunter (2 ) was caught and bowled Gargaro, another two runs Allnutt (2) was bowled by Beck (10-3-31) and on the same total Buckingham (2) was sharply stumped by Prodomo off Gargaro (10-3-16). Hook had slumped to 123-8, still requiring 53 to win but with 15 overs in hand. With over allocations completed, the captain revert to pace expecting to complete the breakthrough, but the wily veteran Poulter was able to use the extra speed off the wicket and was well supported by Divecha. Helped by two missed catches the pair added 42 as the second highest partnership, until under used Dan Loader (4-1-8) clean bowled Poulter (23 with 4 boundaries). Four overs to go, 11 runs or 1 wicket required and number 11 nursing an injured finger. The tense last balls were played out with visiting spectators still hoping for the golden delivery or catch, but despite so many near misses, Divecha (8 no) and Williams (7 no) held out with the tail ender hitting the winning boundary with just 7 balls to spare, at the end of an exciting game which New Milton will feel they let slip through their fingers. The team, at the top of Div2 all season, have now slipped from top spot to Andover who called off their match due to overnight rain.

New Milton 261-9 (50 overs) : Bournemouth II 119 all out (30.5 overs)
New Milton’s middle and lower order responded superbly to the failure of the top order with two season’s bests setting a formidable target, but the visitor’s hopes were blown away by a career best bowling spell by captain Wheeler to record the second win of the season against Bournemouth II’s and retain the top spot in Division 2.
New Milton were asked to bat on a green looking wicket which appeared to be ‘juiced’ by overnight sea mist. Openers Matt Freeman and Dan Adlem, who had posted the highest partnership last week, found progress difficult against the accurate attack of Garlick and Clark. Appreciable movement off the seam was the downfall of Adlem (4) bowled by the evergreen Garlick (10-1-23), and Freeman (5) caught by Ackland off first change Stanniford. Dave Wheeler (1) was then caught by the opposition captain Coombs off a sharp spitting delivery from Stanniford. At 23-3 in the twelfth over, this was the poorest start of the season so far, but the steady James Whitehurst (15) and Lee Beck began a valuable fight back with a 55 run partnership, until he was caught by Wilkinson off Ackland. Half way into the innings and just 78-4 on the board. Eric Linge joined the attacking Beck (49 with 9 boundaries) who was now looking at ease and scoring freely, but disappointingly was clean bowled by Ackland one short of his half century. In his next over, Ackland clean bowled Ben Neal (4) at 109-6. A most valuable and entertaining partnership of 122 at over eight an over followed between Linge and Dan Loader, who both felt a major knock was due. The home supporters were treated to a series of flowing boundaries as the two put their opponents under real pressure, and as the heads began to drop they both reached their half centuries. The consistent Stanniford (10-4-37) continued to persist and was rewarded with two wickets in three balls as Loader (58 with 8 boundaries) was caught Garlick with his season’s highest score, and Linge (74 with 6 boundaries and 4 maximums) was caught Wilkinson with his highest yet SEPL Division 2 score. Nick Gargaro (12 no) and Ryan Beck (14) enjoyed the final run chase adding a further 26, until he was caught off the last ball by keeper Ridley off Ackland (10-4-57). With the shock start, 261-9 was an excellent well worked team effort ensuring maximum batting points.
Bournemouth started hesitantly losing young pup Scott (6) clean bowled Lee Beck (6-1-28) in the third over. Allum and Kennedy (21) began a positive five an over fight back until he was clean bowled by Dave Wheeler’s first delivery. This was the start of an amazing 9.5 over spell in which he took a career best eight wickets, setting the best ever bowling figures for SEPL Division 2, and topping Linge’s 7-26 of last season. Five balls later he had Ridley (0) caught by keeper Prodomo. However, Allum continued to flourish with a number of cleanly hit boundaries, but his new partner Wilkinson (2) soon fell to Wheeler caught in the slips by ‘safe hands’ Dan Loader. Next ball Smith (0) was caught by Matt Freeman – wicket number four. One run later underused Ben Neal (4-1-16) had success having top scorer Allum (45 with 7 boundaries) well caught by the keeper. Ackland (15) and Clark made a brief fight back until he too fell to the Wheeler Prodomo combination at 100-7. Wheeler (10-8-36) then proceeded to mop up the tail clean bowling Stanniford (0), Clark (7) and gutsy Garlick (10), leaving captain Coombs (0 no) – 119 all out with 19.1 overs remaining. The three catches by keeper Tom Prodomo keeps him well ahead in the Division 2 wicket keeping statistics. Unusually, Eric Linge and Ryan Beck ended wicketless.

In a superb 18 over game played in great spirit, cricket was the winner at the Bashley Cricket Ground as New Milton beat their local rivals Lymington in the final of the President’s Cup. This was the first time that captains Dave Wheeler and Morgan Rushbrook had gone head to head, since their days in the same Hampshire Colts team. The two played a crucial part in this enthralling spectacle with Morgan winning Man of the Match for his 100, and Dave lifting the cup for us. It also provided a sad but fitting farewell to our Indika who is now on his way to play for Marsden CC in the Warnseal Durham Social Cricket League – we will be watching your scores!
In an opening partnership of 49 Indika (36 with 4 fours and 2 sixes ), playing his last game left a lasting impression of his talent with a quick fire cameo with one six soaring high over the pavilion, was bowled McMurray (1-21) . Dave Wheeler and Dan Adlem (36 with 4 fours) then added 104 in a 8 over run fest with boundaries scorching across the quick outfield and flying into the surrounding greenery, until he was superbly caught by a full length diving Rushbrook off Beetham (1-42). The run chase was continued by Lee Beck and his captain but was ended in the sixteenth over when young spinner Nick Elliott (2-19) had a dramatic impact in his second over, having Wheeler (80 with 5 fours and 5 sixes) stumped by Grierson, Matt Freeman (0) bowled with his next delivery, and two runs later Lee Beck (13) was adjudged run out on 179-5. Ryan Beck (4) hit one boundary and was caught by Darbyshire off Pain (1-42), with the final run chase between Dan Loader (7 no) and James Whitehurst (8 no) pushing the score to a massive 197-6 in just 18 overs.
Morgan Rushbrook and Grierson (9) made a cracking start taking 20 off the first over, and adding 47 for the first wicket until Ryan Beck (1-35) had him caught by brother Lee. Progress was slowed when Dan Loader (2-41) took two scalps in over 8, having McMurray (7) caught by juggling Nick Gargaro, and Pain (0) adjudged lbw at 62-3. Rushbrook continued the run chase with powerful boundaries and massive sixes out of the ground, with partnerships with Kahn (9) caught Dan Adlem off Freeman, and King. Dave Wheeler (1-25) then came on for his last over as Rushbrook (100 with 9 fours and 6 maximums) smashed the fifth ball for the six he needed for a superb hard hitting century. Next ball, the last of his spell the Milton captain had the Lymmo captain well caught by Freeman at 147-5. With just two overs left King (12) was bowled by Freeman (2-24), and Beetham (5) was bowled in the last over by an emotional Indika (1-7) leaving Naylor (4 no) and Thacker (1 no) and Lymington still 39 runs short.
The team received their medals and the President’s Cup from the New Forest Cricket’s long time President – Vick Loveless. A memorable win and game. Well done the green and gold.

Havant II 201 all out (48.4 overs) : New Milton 202-2 (45.3 overs)
New Milton put the disappointment of their first defeat of the season behind them to claim a resounding eight wicket victory with over four overs to spare to retain the top spot in Division 2.
The ninth lost toss found the hosts batting, with their opening stand between Winfield and Hoolahan (12) ended in the fourth over when James Whitehurst took a catch off inform paceman Eric Linge. This early success was followed by a patient 14 over fight back adding 27 as captain Galliers showed determination against quickies Lee Beck (6-0-21) and Linge. The first change saw a threatening Dan Loader (8-0-20) and Dave Wheeler (7-1-33) continue the pace attack until the captain had Galliers (19) safely bagged by keeper Tom Prodomo.
The highest partnership of 57 followed between Winfield and Knott (20) which was ended in spinner Ryan Beck’s first over when Prodomo continued his good form and made a sharp stumping. In his next over Beck had Matthews (6) well caught by Whitehurst. Brother Lee Beck then made a spectacular direct hit to run out a startled Hodgson (12). When Nick Gargaro (9-1-44) clean bowled Kinge (5), and Freeman caught top scorer Winfield (46 with 6 boundaries) off the challenging Ryan Beck (10-3-47) at 142 for 7, it seemed that the hard work had been done. However, Jackson and Lowe (24) took maximum advantage of a ragged five over phase adding a valuable 49, until he was caught by Dan Loader off the returning Eric Linge
who went on to plunder the ‘tail’ following up short deliveries with devastating Yorkers to remove Jackson (32) and Wade (2) in seven balls, leaving Ransley (0 no). The captain was happy with the performance realising that on such a fast outfield this score was well below par.
Havant’s hopes of an early breakthrough were dashed by the season’s best opening partnership of 96 between Matt Freeman and Dan Adlem. Captain Galliers rotated five of his bowlers around the remarkable Wade (10-0-9), but the two produced an entertaining display with well run singles and well placed flowing boundaries. Freeman then passed his maiden SEPL half century, much to the delight of his team and travelling supporters.
In the 28th over Matthews (10-1-21) had Adlem (35 with 5 boundaries) caught by keeper Kinge, his second highest score of the season. Dave Wheeler then joined Freeman, who was now on 60, driving his first ball to the boundary and demonstrating it was business as usual. The two began to up the run rate to six an over adding 95 in the next 16 overs. With the Havant bowlers and fielders under pressure and tiring It then became a question of which batsman would reach his landmark first. Just ten runs short of a first ton, Freeman (90 with 12 boundaries and a six) was caught by Jackson off Ransley (5-1-30). Lee Beck (6 no) joined Wheeler (53 no with 8 boundaries and a six) who sealed the match and his half century with a winning boundary.
This had been an entertaining match with 46 boundaries, but the home side were outclassed by an excellent team effort.

New Milton recorded their second win of the season with a much improved batting performance on a good Fernhill wicket, in scorching hot conditions . After winning the toss the home side opened with J.Whitehurst (44) and A.Garnett (21). These two put on 60 for the first wicket before Garnett was caught off the bowling of M.Kitcher (2-49). S.Watts (26) then joined Whitehurst who was dismissed immediately after the first drinks break. Veteran D.Crossley (18) and Watts pushed the score along to 123-4 before they both fell to Nicholson (2-40). U17 fledgling A.Case (9) making his Hampshire League Debut looked comfortable until he got a lifting ball off C.Kitcher (2-36). Milton then relied on their experienced middle order of S.Taylor (26), S.Tilbury (21), K.Locke (21n.o) and J.Neal (18n.o.), to take the score up to 224-7, agonisingly 1 run short of maximum batting points on 224-7.
After the tea interval the home side took to the field with what looked like a scene from a World War 2 movie. There were players with bad backs, knees and one with double cracked bones in his foot. Never the less this didn’t deter the bowlers who toiled away in the sun. J.Waller and Tilbury Took the new ball but failed to make the breakthrough. Skipper Taylor brought himself on in the 11th over and immediately took a wicket, clean bowling Todd (19). At 47-1 the visitors were still looking good to make a challenge on the home side’s total. K.Locke now in tandem with the skipper then proceeded to knock over the top order. Taylor (10-2-27-2) and Locke (10-2-14-2) bowled A miserly combined spell of 20 over’s for only 41 runs, which reduced Pylewell to 97-5 off of 31 over’s. The visitors suffered two more set backs with run outs from two fantastic throws. The first from Whitehurst and assisted by keeper Garnett. The other a direct hit form 60yds by Waller. The second run out resulted in Thomas (82) being the victim. Tilbury (9.3-1-38-2) returned and for once a bit of luck went his way. The midlander proceeded to clean bowl the dangerous C.Kitcher (61) who was making a solo effort to win the game and then removed yonger Kitcher in the same manner.
A rare outing with the ball saw Milton’s head coach J.Neal (6-0-41-1) given the responsibility of bowling at the death. Neal’s wicket and another run out by Tilbury ended the Pylewell innings, only 23 runs short in the end. A bit closer than the home side would have like, but it was nice to get that winning feeling back.

Andover 243-8 (50 overs) : New Milton 197-9 (50 overs)
New Milton’s amazing winning run came to an end as the team let the match slip through their fingers at Andover , but they remain nine points clear at the top of Division 2.
New Milton found themselves in the field on the hotest day of the year as their captain lost the toss yet again. The opening pace bowlers made an early breakthrough when Hooper (1) was caught by keeper T Prodomo off Eric Linge, followed in the seventh over by O’Gorman (5) clean bowled by Lee Beck (6-1-33). Danger man Prozesky was in great form enjoying the pace off the pitch with the ball flashing to the boundary across the lightning fast outfield, until he cut a fast Linge delivery into his ribs, forcing his temporary retirement. Dave Wheeler came on and had immediate success having Coppleston (13) caught behind by the keeper. Dan Loader (10-1-33) kept up the pace and in his sixth over had the defensive overseas Van der Merwe (6) caught by Matt Freeman. Prozesky (45 with 11 boundaries) displaying a considerable bruise, then returned and immediately found the boundary with crisp shots, until Dave Wheeler (10-2-34) dismissed him caught and bowled. Half way through the innings Andover were 108 for 5 with the runmaker back in the pavilion. Thoughts of a collapse faded as New Milton seemed to wilt in the hot sun, and bowlers were frustrated by at least five spilled catches, more than in the whole season so far. The Hadfield brothers Jonty and Chris began a valuable ten over partnership of 51 before J Hadfield (51 with 4 boundaries and a six) was caught by Dan Loader off spinner Ryan Beck. The next two wickets followed quickly with Adams (9) caught by keeper Prodomo off Ryan Beck (9-2-43), and Taylor (2) clean bowled by Eric Linge (10-2-49) at 170-8 in over 40. A total under 200 seemed a real possibility but C Hadfield (51 no with 4 boundaries) and Roberts (27 no ) resisted the tiring attack with a ninth wicket partnership of 73 ( third highest in div2 records) to finish at 243 for 8 including 33 extras.
The New Milton reply did not go to plan as the Andover captain Richard Taylor turned in a match winning performance. The first six wickets fell for only 45 in the fifteenth over. This dramatic collapse started in the second over when Dan Adlem (0) was bowled by captain Taylor, next over Dave Wheeler (10) was caught by keeper Van der Merwe off Taylor. Matt Freeman and Eric Linge (8) began a fightback which was ended when he was caught by C Hadfield off Adams (10-1-30). Freeman (17) had a short stand with Ben Neal until he was caught by the keeper off Taylor. Next over Neal (8) lbw and Dan Loader (0) lbw fell to Taylor within 3 balls at 45 for 6 in only the fifteenth over. This marked the beginning of a determined fight back between in form Lee and Ryan Beck with a stand of 52 in ten overs. Ryan Beck (17) was playing a supporting role as his brother began a productive attack until he tried to dispatch J Hadfield (7-1-25). Disappointed Joe Prodomo (2) was then adjudged lbw bowled by the returning Taylor (10-6-45). Nick Gargaro then joined top scorer Lee Beck (69 with 7 boundaries) who began a rear guard action punishing the tiring bowlers by adding a further 62 until he was bowled by L Graham ( 7-1-28) with seven overs to go. Nick Gargaro (39 no ) and Tom Prodomo (11 no) then played sensibly adding a further 32 finishing with 197 for 9. In reflection the spilled catches, number of extras, and failure for the second week to break the tail end partnership proved very expensive.
