Finally a 1st XI report – and it’s a win :)

New Milton vs Old Tautonians and Romsey

6/6/09

New Milton won their first game of the season with a convincing 6 wicket win over fellow silver league strugglers Old Tautonians and Romsey. With the weather looking likely to rain it was good to win the toss and put the opposition in. This proved to be even better when after 8 over’s OT’s were 15 for 1 with Lee Beck picking up the wicket with help of a good catch by Kristian Locke.

Eric Linge worked away at the other end and after some words of encouragement from Andy Beck ended up bowling full pace and finding the edge, with the catch held well by Walt. Dan Loader came on to bowl and bowled superb lines ending with figure of 9 over’s 0 for 28. Ryan Beck came on at the other end and after a brief spell finished with figures 3overs 0 for 10. Matt Freeman bowled superb lines and lengths bowling straight through for 10overs 4 for 20.

Nick Gargaro came on to replace Ryan and started of superbly taking wickets from his first over and after a double wicket maiden ended up with figures of 3 for 25 of 9 over’s. Eric Linge and Lee Beck came back to finish off the game and Lee finished with figures of 9 over’s 1 for 37. Eric decided to start bowling bouncers and this paid off with Eric ending with figures of 4 for 27 of his 10 overs. Max Smith batted all the way through the OT’s innings for a respectable 55 not out and the OT’s innings ended on 155 for 8.

New Milton opened up with Pete Wakefield and Matt Freeman, after last week’s performance we were hoping for more of the same. This is what happened with Mutley eventually out for 27 of 26 balls. James Whitehurst continued his good run of form out LBW for 4. This led Eric Linge to the crease to hopefully continue his form and him and Wakers put together a solid partnership with Wakers finally out for 25, with the score on 74. At drinks Linge and Dan Adlem were together on 92, with over half the runs scored it was just a matter of knocking the ball around and taking small chunks out of the target.

With the score on 139 Linge played an awful swipe across the line and was adjudged LBW for a commendable 45, this led Dan Adlem, who had been dropped 4 times already to knock the runs off with Dan Loader. Loads did this as quick as possible scoring 16 of 9 balls, with Oldham remaining not out on 31. First win of many for the season.  Ventnor at home next week, should be a good game.
