New Milton’s superb eight-match winning run ends at Andover

Andover 243-8 (50 overs) : New Milton 197-9 (50 overs)

New Milton’s amazing winning run came to an end as the team let the match slip through their fingers at Andover , but they remain  nine points clear at the top of Division 2.

New Milton found themselves in the field on the hotest day of the year as their captain lost the toss yet again. The opening pace bowlers made an early breakthrough when Hooper (1) was caught by keeper T Prodomo off Eric Linge, followed in the seventh over by O’Gorman (5) clean bowled by Lee Beck (6-1-33). Danger man  Prozesky was in great form enjoying the pace off the pitch with the ball flashing to the boundary across the lightning fast outfield, until he cut a fast Linge delivery into his ribs, forcing his temporary retirement. Dave Wheeler came on and had immediate success having Coppleston (13) caught behind by the keeper. Dan Loader (10-1-33) kept up the pace and in his sixth over had the defensive overseas Van der Merwe (6) caught by Matt Freeman. Prozesky (45 with 11 boundaries) displaying a considerable bruise, then returned and immediately found the boundary with crisp shots, until Dave Wheeler (10-2-34) dismissed him caught and bowled. Half way through the innings Andover were 108 for 5 with the runmaker back in the pavilion.  Thoughts of a collapse faded as New Milton seemed to wilt in the hot sun, and bowlers were frustrated by at least five spilled catches, more than in the whole season so far. The Hadfield brothers Jonty and Chris began a valuable ten over partnership of 51 before J Hadfield (51 with 4 boundaries and a six) was caught by Dan Loader off spinner Ryan Beck. The next two wickets followed quickly with Adams (9) caught by keeper Prodomo off Ryan Beck (9-2-43), and  Taylor (2) clean bowled by Eric Linge (10-2-49) at 170-8 in over 40. A total under 200 seemed a real possibility but C Hadfield (51 no with 4 boundaries) and Roberts (27 no ) resisted the tiring attack with a ninth wicket partnership of 73 ( third highest in div2 records) to finish at 243 for 8 including 33 extras.

The New Milton reply did not go to plan as the Andover captain Richard Taylor turned in a match winning performance. The first six wickets fell for only 45 in the fifteenth over. This dramatic collapse started in the second over when Dan Adlem (0) was bowled by captain Taylor, next over Dave Wheeler (10) was caught by keeper Van der Merwe off Taylor. Matt Freeman and Eric Linge (8) began a fightback which was ended when he was caught by C Hadfield off Adams (10-1-30). Freeman (17) had a short stand with Ben Neal until he was caught by the keeper off Taylor. Next over Neal (8) lbw and Dan Loader (0) lbw fell to Taylor within 3 balls at 45 for 6 in only the fifteenth over. This marked the beginning of a determined fight back between in form Lee and Ryan Beck with a stand of 52 in ten overs. Ryan Beck (17) was playing a supporting role as his brother began a productive attack until he tried to dispatch J Hadfield (7-1-25). Disappointed Joe Prodomo (2) was then adjudged lbw bowled by the returning Taylor (10-6-45). Nick Gargaro then joined top scorer Lee Beck (69 with 7 boundaries) who began a rear guard action punishing  the tiring bowlers by adding a further 62 until he was bowled by L Graham ( 7-1-28) with seven overs to go.  Nick Gargaro (39 no ) and Tom Prodomo (11 no) then played sensibly adding a further 32 finishing with 197 for 9. In reflection the spilled catches, number of extras, and failure for the second week to break the tail end partnership  proved very expensive.

New Milton broadside sinks Hartley Wintney

New Milton 219-9  (50 overs) : Hartley Wintney  165 all out (44.4 overs)

New Milton’s opening pace attack proved to be too powerful for their visitors as the team record their eighth successive victory by 54 runs at Fernhill to retain their position at the top of Division 2.

New Milton captain lost the toss for the seventh time as he asked to bat first on an excellent looking track at Fernhill. From the first overs by quickies Jolley and Jowett it was apparent that the track was going to assist pace bowling, and that the fast outfield would reward good stroke play. Openers Matt Freeman and Dan Adlem took their time to play themselves in against the moving ball, as scoring proved difficult against disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Both played with maturity, riding several sharp blows and taking advantage of any loose deliveriesl. Their 38 partnership at three an over was ended when Adlem (17) was caught by keeper captain G Phillips off first change bowler S Baldwin.

Wheeler Cuts LooseCaptain Dave Wheeler announced himself by stroking his first two deliveries to the square leg boundary, and began a stand of 17 with the gutsy Freeman (15) which was broken when he was bowled off his elbow by S Baldwin (10-2-35). Eric Linge surprised his team mates when he was bowled third ball by the miserly M Teale (10-1-27). At 62 for 3 after twenty two overs, things were not going to plan and James Whitehurst and Wheeler began to repair the innings against Teale and spinner J Cockram. Wheeler (61 with 9 boundaries) increased the pressure giving his partner time to play himself in, and the two put on a valuable four an over partnership of 75 which was broken when he picked out the only fielder on the leg  boundary off Cockram (10-1-59).This brought his total to 592 runs for the season.  James Whitehurst

In form Lee Beck joined Whitehurst who was now playing with confidence, and the two maintained the four an over rate adding a further 34 runs. Their run chase was ended in the 41st over by a mid wicket mix up immediately after Whitehurst (51 with 4 boundaries) had completed an excellent half century. With only 9 overs remaining, Dan Loader (0) gave himself too little time to settle in and was caught and bowled Jolley (10-1-50) fourth ball. Ryan Beck (9 with 2 boundaries) then joined his brother Lee who was now playing with considerable freedom, as the pair added a valuable 18 before he was bowled by the returning Jowett. With the intelligent  rotation of the strike, Joe Prodomo enabled Beck (37 with 4 boundaries and a six) to continue the attack adding a further 27 between them, before he was bowled by Jowett. Prodomo (9) was then  bowled by Jowett (10-3-42) by the last ball of the innings, leaving Nick Gargaro (0 no) and twin brother Tom padded up in the pavilion. The general consensus was that 219 was slightly below par, but that the visitors had put up a competitive bowling and fielding display.

Over tea, the New Milton pace bowlers could hardly wait to see how they would perform on the fastest track of the season, little thinking that just ten overs into the innings half the visitor’s batsmen would be blasted out with just 23 runs on the board.

See Ya In A Bit!The last ball of the opening over, Lee Beck had captain G Phillips (2) caught by the ever reliable slipper Dan Loader, and in his third over fellow opener A Sciaretta (2) caught by Matt Freeman. Eric Linge, fresh from a Middlesex trial at Lords and his callup to the Dorset Minor Counties team,  then bowled his fastest,  most aggressive spell of the season, taking two scalps in successive balls in his fourth over with S Balding (1) caught by Nick Gargaro and H Jowett (golden duck) clean bowled. Next over Linge had N Phillips (13) caught by Dan Adlem. In the following over J Teale (8) was clean bowled by the excellent L Beck (10-3-44). At 33 for 6 in the eleventh over, a record low score looked a possibility as wickets continued to fall with Linge (10-5-26)picking up his first five-for of the season by having R Hill (13) caught by Dan Adlem , and Jolley (5) clean bowled  at 55 for 8 in the eighteenth over.

HostileHowever, M Digweed and M Teale were determined to ‘dig in’ against the pace of Dan Loader (5-0-30) and Dave Wheeler as the wicket began to flatten and the shine came off the ball.  In the next eight overs they frustrated the bowling attack adding a valuable 31 until Teale edged a Wheeler delivery to keeper Tom Prodomo at 86 for 9. Jack Cockram joined Matt  Digweed as the pace was taken off the ball with the in form pairing of left armer Nick Gargaro  and spinner Ryan Beck. It seemed that the victory would come at any moment, but the last wicket pair displayed the skill and resolve not shown by the top order, with ex Hampshire colt Cockram not a tail end ‘bunny’. Their partnership kept the attack at bay for almost an hour, and as they became more attacking against Gargaro (4-0-23) and Beck (5-0-27), Wheeler brought himself on to partner the spinner.  Eventually, in over 44 Wheeler (10-2-14) bowling his first full spell of the season, had his revenge having Cockram (35 with 6 boundaries) caught behind by T Prodomo. The third highest DIV2 SEPL tenth wicket partnership had added 79 in nineteen overs, leaving the excellent Digweed (60 no with 7 boundaries).  Despite the delay, this was a pleasing 54 run victory which gave the fielding side a good run out for next Saturday’s crucial top table clash at Andover.

New Milton hold their nerve to end Hursley Park challenge

New Milton 232-8  (50 overs) : Hursley Park 204 all out (49.5 overs)

Hursley won the toss and asked their visitors to bat at the scenic Park ground. New Milton were forced to make three changes to their winning team, with the two Dans from Cranborne attending a friend’s wedding. A steady opening partnership between James Whitehurst and Matt Freeman put on 33 against the opening attack of Manning and Marks, until Freeman (17) was caught and bowled by Marks. Captain Dave Wheeler and the steady Whitehurst (20) added a further 34 until he was caught and bowled by young Abdurahman (1-50). Eric Linge (1) strode to the wicket but four balls later was on his way back to the pavilion adjudged out lbw to Bailey (1-51). Ben Neal then joined  Wheeler in a valuable nineteen over partnership of 116 runs. The lush damp outfield was slow with balls slowing short of the boundary, and the two were forced to run numerous singles and twos to push along the score at four an over. Hursley rotated their bowlers in an attempt to force a break through as the two began to open up with well placed boundaries.  Wheeler (81 with 6 boundaries) looked in top form but was visibly surprised when he was adjudged out lbw to Davies (1-50) at 186 for 4 in over 40. Lee Beck joined Neal (50 with 5 boundaries and a maximum) who reached his excellent half century, and was then caught by keeper Storey off the competitive  Marks. Beck was joined by new boy Joe Prodomo (12) as they continued the four an over chase adding a further 36 before he fell to a Abdurahman catch off Marks. Just four runs later the attacking Beck (28 with 4 boundaries) was given out lbw to Marks (4-39). Nick Gargaro (1) was clean bowled in the 50th over by Derek Manning (1-34), leaving Ryan Beck (2 no) and Tom Prodomo (0 no). Steve Watts was left padded up in the pavilion. This was another professional batting performance against a determined  bowling and fielding  side.

The Hursley innings began with an excellent twenty over partnership of 78 between Prendergast and Miller, as it appeared that the sun had flattened out the wicket and was now allowing the ball to run faster over the out field. Captain Wheeler rotated his bowlers to gain a breakthrough, but the two seemed well set and were keeping up with the required run rate.  With the quickies having no luck and unable to strike, the previously successful pairing of Nick Gargaro and Ryan Beck provided an ‘off the pace’ challenge. In his fourth over Gargaro clean bowled Miller (25 with 3 boundaries). Another steady partnership followed between Davies and Prendergast  (48 with 3 boundaries and a six)  who fell 2 short of an excellent half century being well caught by Whitehurst off the left arm Gargaro (2-38) at 109 for 2 in 30 overs. The pressure of an increasing run rate then led to the home side taking more chances and making mistakes. The incoming Mcdermott (7) lasted ten balls before a mid-wicket mix up left him stranded as Linge made a sharp return to keeper Tom Prodomo, and the next ball from Ryan Beck (1-45) had Bailey (0) trapped lbw at 118 for 4. Veteran Chris Wheeler joined Davies and the two started a threatening comeback adding 52 in the next 9 overs to put the home side back on track. Dave Wheeler (1-37) ‘juggled’ with his bowlers before bringing himself on,  having success with his second delivery to his name sake Wheeler (24) edging a sharp catch to  T Prodomo at 175 for 5. The game was ‘still on’ as Davies was joined by the mighty frame of South African Manning. His two ball stay was then ended by a piece of brilliance from keeper Prodomo as his direct hit left Manning (1) well out of his ground. Linge then returned to sweep away the next four batsmen in a four over blitz. Tennant (0) was caught off his second ball by T Prodomo and  Marks (0) was bowled the next ball. Four wickets had fallen for three runs, but  Hursley still threatened until the partnership of 21 between Storey and the excellent  Davies (70 with 5 fours and a six) was ended  when he was bowled by Linge.  Tail ender Abdurahman was determined to hold out, but with the penultimate ball Storey (6) was caught by Gargaro off Linge for another timely spell of 4-16.  This win by 28 runs gave New Milton maximum points, and was one of the most satisfying so far as  Hursley had provided a real all round challenge.

Six out of six as New Milton are too hot for Burridge

New Milton 253 all out (49.2 overs) : Burridge 130 all out (44.5 overs)

After winning the toss at last captain Dave Wheeler elected to bat on a beautiful, hot day at Fernhill cricket ground. Indika Senarathne and Dan Adlem opened against the steady bowling of White (0-63) and Godwin (0-48),  putting on the season’s best first wicket partnership of 65. The young Sri Lankan played  freely with a number of cracking, if dangerous attacking shots, in  the top score of the match until he was caught by young keeper Jamie Rood off South African paceman Byron Van Der Merwe for 43 (with 7 boundaries and a six). Dave Wheeler and Dan Adlem continued to pressurise the attack with flowing shot play adding 50 in the next ten overs, until the captain miss-timed a hook from a fast Der Merwe bouncer and was caught by opposition captain Ankers for 30 (with 5 boundaries).  Adlem was then joined by Eric Linge who last Sunday played for Dorset in a T20 warm up match against Somerset. The pair continued the five an over attack when  Adlem (33) who had looked  in no trouble was caught by Der Merwe in the first over of veteran spinner Martin  Bundy. Last season with six successive loses, this loss of the top order would have meant alarm bells ringing in the pavilion with the probability of a dramatic collapse. This year has been very different with a real determination from all batsmen to play with greater responsibility. The next six partnerships pushed the score from 156-4 to a very competitive 253. Linge and Ben Neale (4) pushed on until Ben was trapped lbw by Alex Styles. Lee Beck joined Linge (27) until Eric was caught by White off the tricky Bundy, inform Lee Beck (19) was bowled by Styles , Dan Loader (12) was caught by Styles (3-46). Ryan Beck and Matt Freeman then added a highly entertaining 26 (including 4 boundaries), with Ryan disappointed to be declared run out for 9. Freeman and Nick Gargaro continued  to chase runs until Matt was run out for an excellent 27 off 21 balls having  taken a special liking to Der Merwe (3-59) who then had his revenge having an aggressive Gargaro (9 ) caught by Harris, leaving Tom Prodomo 1 no. This was a good team effort against a bowling and fielding unit which did not give up, and is the first time this season that the team have been bowled out within the 50 overs.

New Milton bowlers realised that the wicket had been responsive to pace and spin and were eager to see how the Burridge batsmen would respond  to their competitive total of 253. Lee Beck (1-31) made an immediate impact when opener Styles (0) was caught by Indika off the second ball he faced. A fight back followed between the experienced Neil Cunningham and competitive overseas Van Der Merwe as they added the highest partnership of 54 in the next fourteen overs. Cunningham (33 with 4 boundaries) was then caught by Indika off Wheeler (1-11) , and the home side soon found that their opponents had no answer to their varied bowling attack as they slipped from 55-2  to 130 all out. Van Der Merwe (11) showed real determination lasting 48 balls until he was clean bowled by a superb spinning delivery from Ryan Beck. This was the beginning of another Beck-Gargaro demolition as captain Ankers (8) lasted only ten balls before he was bowled by Beck, quickly followed by the defensive Richard Kenway (8) who was caught by Lee Beck off Nick Gargaro. The incoming batsman Matt Godwin was determined  to ‘tough it out ‘ playing 57 balls in the next hour while watching the procession back to the pavilion as his team mates perish around  him,  with Rood (5) falling to a Gargaro catch off Ryan Beck (3-21), Wright (7) who showed some resistance until he was run out by a Wheeler rocket throw to keeper Prodomo for a sharp runout, Harris (0) caught by Wheeler off Gargaro (2-27). Dan Loader then clean bowled White (1), and after the last wicket, second highest partnership of sixteen the Burridge innings was ended as Bundy (13) was caught  by Adlem off Loader (2-15), leaving the patient Godwin 22 no. Once again the bowlers had been backed up by a tight fielding and catching display. The sixth successive win with the home team beating Burridge by 123 runs with 5.1 overs to spare was another excellent all round performance. Next Saturday New Milton are away to Hursley Park.

New Milton’s first victory over Rowledge gives them 21 point lead

Rowledge 113 all out (40.4 Overs) : New Milton 114-2 (29.3)

Heavy morning rain led to a delay of an hour, with the match reduced to 42 overs. Dave Wheeler lost the toss for the fifth time, and was surprised when Rowledge captain David Lloyd elected to bat as the forecast was for improving conditions late afternoon. Joe Prodomo was brought into the team in the absence of all rounder Lee Beck, who recently passed his personal landmark of 200 SEPL wickets. Dave Wheeler (0-15) and Eric Linge opened the bowling attack and quickly took advantage of the weather affected wicket, and in his second over Linge had Nick Morant attempting to hook a short delivery. The ball hit the opener’s helmet and became stuck in the grill, cutting his forehead. Morant was forced to retire and speed off to casualty for stitches. Chris Yates Jnr was then joined by Ricky Yates who only survived two balls before he edged another sharp Linge (1-24) delivery to Dan Loader who made a astonishing one handed ‘springing’ catch. Captain David Lloyd and Yates Jnr began a ten over partnership with 30 hard earned runs against the accurate pace attack and excellent ground fielding. Linge crumpled to the grass when a clean bowled wicket was called a front foot no ball. Left arm seamer Matt Freeman entered the attack and with his sixth ball had Lloyd (8) caught by keeper Tom Prodomo. Joe Lyver joined the determined Yates as Dan Loader continued to turn up the pace. The pressure mounted as only 19 runs were scored in the next 7 overs, when top scorer Yates (23) was caught by Wheeler off Freeman (2-22). Adam Sharp (10) went on a run a ball ‘spree’ until he was caught by Nick Gargaro off the second ball he faced from Dan Loader (1-9), on 72 for 4.

It then became the Ryan Beck, Nick Gargaro and Tom Prodomo show as the pace was taken off the ball. The Rowledge batsmen struggled and then collapsed with the last 6 wickets falling for just 30 runs. Beck started the slump trapping Ian Metcalfe (3) lbw, and the confident Joe Lyver (22 including 4 boundaries) well stumped by Tom Prodomo. Left arm Gargaro then had Gregg Smith (6) caught by the young keeper, and 6 balls later had Richard Forbes (1) trapped lbw. The injured Morant then retured to the crease to support his tailenders until Tim Wheatley (6) was caught by the ever alert Loader off Gargaro (3-18). Morant (10) soon followed the procession stumped by Prodomo off Beck (3-21) leaving Simon Bonser (3) not out with shot out for Rowledge 113 with 8 balls unused.

An good team effort and four excellent victims for keeper Prodomo. The heavy roller was used during the break but the unpredictable conditions continued with the ball poping or skidding through. Young Sri Lankan opener Indiki Senaratne (13) went off like a rocket trying to warm himself, up hitting his first two balls for boundaries, but lasted only 9 balls before he was caught by Morant off Forbes (1-27). Captain Wheeler joined Dan Adlem and the two began to build a steady partnership of 36 with well taken singles punctuated by the occasional punishing boundary. Adlem (17) looked wellset but after being hit by two ‘spitting’ balls was caught by Metcalfe off Bonser (1-32) on 49 for 2. Eric Linge joined his captain and together they produced an unbroken match winning partnership of 65 off the next seventeen overs against the bowling of Wheatley (0-20), Lloyd (0-24) and Sharp (0-7). Linge (43 no), currently in a ‘purple patch’ of good form, scored 5 boundaries and a maximum in his 34 ball innings, while Wheeler (26 no) was determined to shelve his natural attacking flare playing through 91 balls with just 3 boundaries, but relaxed to hit the winning straight drive to celebrate the first victory over their worthy opponents– 114-2 with 13.3 overs to spare. On Sunday, Linge played for Dorset in a 20/20 warm up against Somerset and really enjoyed the experience. Table toppers New Milton face Burridge at Fernhill next Saturday, come and watch some cricket at our lovely ground and enjoy a cup of tea.

Milton face Rowledge in “true test” of title credentials

Dave Wheeler’s men host the current SPL2 champions Rowledge at Fernhill today.  Wheeler, surely due to bat first after winning the toss (no one can lose 7 in a row!) will be hoping his batters continue to perform.

Benny N After playing a staring role in the win at Bournemouth and contributing valuable runs to the chase at Paultons Benny N is hoping for a chance to shine at home today.  ”There’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room at the moment, it’s a fun place to play cricket.  If I get a chance again today then great but Indika and Dan have been going well up the top of the order.  The boys have said the pitch is playing well this season but I’ve not had the chance to bat on it yet!”

With an unchanged side for Milton and Rowledge coming off the back of a defeat by Andover it’s set for an tense afternoons cricket at Fernhill.

New Milton too strong for brave Cadnam

Cadnam 109-5 (18 Overs) : New Milton 110 -3 (15.3 Overs)

Losing the toss yet again, Captain Dave Wheeler gave eight of his team a chance to bowl in the beautiful evening sunshine at the Cadnam cricket ground. Cadnam soon lost their openers both dismissed by Lee Beck (2-10), Mahmood (1) falling in the first over caught by keeper Joe Prodomo, and Ali (6) caught by Wheeler in his third over. Sahib was in good form and countered with a succession of unorthodox shots to the boundary, and put on 33 with Biddlecomb (6) before he was clean bowled by Rory Marsh (2-12) who then had Elliott (4) caught by Joe Prodomo two balls later. Cadnam were 37 for 4 in the tenth over. An excellent partnership of 65 with 14 boundaries followed between Sahib and Hardy (28) until he was caught by Lee off his brother Ryan Beck (1-18). Top scorer Sahib (54) and Payne (1) were not out at the end of the eighteen overs at 109-5.

Indiki Senaratne (14) teed off with a first ball boundary and added two more fours before he was bowled by Maiden (1-22) in the third over. James Whitehurst was determined to provide the anchor, treating the six Cadnam bowlers with respect. Dave Wheeler (6) had an unusually short stay at the crease and was bowled by Elliott (1-11). In form Joe Prodomo then joined Whitehust and soon took a liking to the bowling attack especially Sahib, adding 34 with 4 fours and 2 sixes, before he was bowled  by Hardy (1-26) on 81 for 3. Cadnam hopes of a collapse were smashed as Ryan Beck at his belligerent best set about Hardy and Ali, hitting 31 no including 3 fours and a maximum in just fourteen balls. He finished the match on a high with a winning boundary with 2.3 overs to spare, the patient James Whitehurst ending on 20 no. New Milton face Fawley at home in the next round on 14th June.

Dave fails but the Wheels stay on

Paultons 1 258-7 (50 Overs) : New Milton I 261-7 (41.5 Overs)

The visitors lost the toss for the fifth time in succession as the home captain elected to bat on a beautiful sunny day at the picturesque Paultons cricket ground. An enthralling game was to follow in which New Milton maintained their unbeaten run.

ERIC LINGE PAULTONS 4Quickies Lee Beck (0-19) and Eric Linge (0-20) soon realised it would be hot, hard work on a flat batting track as S Ennew and S Magee made steady progress at four an over, until Ennew feeling unwell was forced to leave the field in the sixth over, with D White his replacement. Dan Loader (0-21) and Dave Wheeler (1-45) continued the pace attack, and in his second over the captain had White (21) well caught in the slips by Loader, who a few balls later  almost achieved a spectacular high catch. Magee and T Iqbal continued the attack with a flowing 62 run partnership, as Nick Gargaro and Ryan Beck were brought on to take the pace off the ball. Iqbal (31) hit Beck for a massive six into the car park, before the spinner had his revenge with overseas Indiki calmly pouching a lofted shot in the deep. Ennew returned with a runner, as Magee (53) continued to pepper the boundary with powerful blows, until he fell to a sharp keeper catch by Tom Prodomo off R Beck. Next ball Beck (3-55) had O’Brien (0) caught and bowled. Captain Collins (30) joined Ennew at 131 for 4, and together added 44 in quick time until he was left in amazement as Indiki took a most spectacular diving caught and bowled.

Ryan Beck aka Giggsy

Ryan Beck aka Giggsy

A fruitful partnership of 70 followed with  Rickman. Miserly left armer Nick Gargaro kept one end quiet with only 22 runs scored off his ten overs. Rickman’s cameo (36) was ended by a Linge catch off left arm seamer Matt Freeman (1-23). One run later top scorer Ennew (54) was left stranded, sharply stumped by Prodomo off Indiki (2-45), leaving J Robinson (11 no) and P Lamb (1) who was runout by Freemen off the last ball. The set a challenging 258-7 at four runs per over.

DAN ADLEM PAULTONS

Indiki Senaratne  and Dan Adlem opened up against seamers Dunn and Wilde in another all-action opening stand of 38 before Indiki (26) was caught by keeper 0’Brien off Dunn (1-44) in the fifth over. Adlem who was looking well-set, was joined by Dave Wheeler and the pair added 39 at eight an over. But there the partnership ended with the captain miss hitting a square cut to Richman off Robinson (1-24) for 22.

ERIC PAULTONS 3

The highest partnership of 59 followed as the hard hitting Eric Linge continued his good all round form as the Paultons captain took the pace off the ball.

Adlem (47) looked certain to reach his half century but fell short bowled by P Lamb. Another significant stand of 44 followed with Ben Neal (22) continuing the chase until he too was bowled by Lamb (2-62). Lee Beck, hero of last week’s record breaking stand with Wheeler, joined Linge as spinner Iqbal was brought into the attack. The next five overs added 35 runs as the pair exceeded the required run rate, until top scorer Linge (52) was caught by Dunn off Iqbal (1-25). Dan Loader (5), 2009 club all-rounder, was then caught by White off the returning P Wilde (1-45).  Ryan Beck (11) then joined his brother but holed out at long on caught by White off Richman (1-31) with just 3 runs to win. Matt Freeman (1 no) supported Lee Beck who hit the winning boundary to end on impressive 39 no. New Milton had cruised home to a very pleasing three wicket win with nine overs to spare, showing their all round confidence and determination to win. Next Saturday the team face Rowledge at Fernhill (1pm start) in a top table contest.
